Dear Symantec,
I am currently working on a system where the NS.PackageRefresh has been giving errors for weeks and weeks from where someone went through the software packages in the Software Library and in the Software Updates within Patch Management and deleted directories to free up space, however, they did not delete the software updates or packages in the CMDB. Furthermore, one or two of the phantom packages were set to do interesting things like take all of the files on a user share and publish these as a package (that resulted in NS.PR taking 7 hours at one point and the NS.Package Distribution Point Update Schedule taking 2 hours).
The errors generated by the NS.PackageRefresh slowed down the system, but went unnoticed until we needed to perform an upgrade.
So, could we have any errors that are generated by the NS.PackageRefresh or the NS.Package Distribution Point Update Schedule tasks updated into the SMF part of the CMDB and also include a report that shows the errors for the packages? If this were created, we could also have an Automation Policy which ran daily that would show the bad package name, path and the error and therefore allow administrators to fix this sort of issue.
This would allow us to have better reporting on issues within the Software Packages and the NS.PackageRefresh processes and therefore have a better view of the issues faced by the system?
Kindest regards,
QuietLeni
