Dear Symantec,
I have been running and re-running through the processes for installing SMP 7.6 on a new Windows 2012 R2 server and I must complement Symantec by saying that the installation process is getting better and better. However, there seems to be a sticking point that I have not come across before with SMP and it is Adobe Flash.
The IRCs do say that Flash is required to be installed upon the NS and if it is not installed, it shows up a Warning in the IRCs. I have mentioned some of my findings in this Connect article. However, I have tried further to get Flash working on the SMP, by installing the Windows Desktop Experience on the SMP AFTER I have upgraded to SMP 7.6 via the SIM. My result was that the Resource Relationship Diagram in the Resource Manager does not work (the Adobe Shockwave Flash Player object was enabled, but the object was blank). If I disabled the Adobe Shockwave Flash Player in Internet Explorer, then the object showed up as a blank box with an X in the top-left corner. I believe that it is now impossible to use the Relationship Diagram on an SMP 7.6 server within IE when running on Windows 2012 R2, but it shows up OK with the same installation on Windows 2008 R2.
So... can we please have better guidance on Adobe Flash installation in the IRCs for SMP 7.6? Is Flash ACTUALLY NEEDED on the server? Also, if it is NOT needed, then can it be removed from the IRCs?
